Last week the society screened the martial arts blockbuster “Bodyguards and Assassins” and whilst most viewers were not quite impressed by the story and the predictability of the plot, one thing that was certainly worth experiencing was the music.
The soundtrack was brilliant – from the quick-paced accompaniment during the fight sequences to the slow and emotional tunes in the touching scenes. Every note was in its place.
Some of you might not have heard of Peter Kam, although his name might be familiar from another earlier screened film – “Shunjuku Incident”, where comments on the breath-taking work of the composer were certainly not absent. His spectacular work in “Bodyguards and Assassins”, though, would most likely receive a lot of credit and would put him back in the “Best original score” category.
Peter’s most praised piece of music is the soundtrack of “Yi Sa Bui Lai” (Isabella), for which he received two awards and a couple of nominations for best soundtrack. He is among the most famous film composers in the Asian realm of cinema. Other similar amazing artists include Chan Kwong Wing (co-composer in “Bodyguards and Assassins”), Leon Ko (“Perhaps Love”) and Joe Hisaishi (“Spirited Away”).Labels: cueafs |
