  • Broadcast Portfolio - Newsday
Newsday was a valuable experience and there was a lot to learn from actual practice on air. As for a first time, Nadia and I did manage to work through some of the aspects and did not really succeed in others, but overall it was a successful process.

One of the good aspects of our work was that we hit out deadline – we were on time in the studio, we had our entire audio ready and all of our stories printed, ordered and rehearsed.

There were a few things I would have done differently. First of all, it took me too long to collect the vox pop, because I was not happy with the opinions and did not realise I could only use as many as three people, and as a result I was left with too little time to edit.

I learned to be more efficient with opinion gathering, especially when time compressed; not to gather too much material which would need a lot of editing, if there is no time for that; stay calm and not stress too much, whatever is going wrong.

In conclusion, working as a broadcast journalist is a lot more stressful than print and it is both exciting and terrifying.
There is also a huge technical part to it that one needs to be familiar with. And, most importantly, there needs to be coordination in order to make radio sound as good as it does.

The time is 12:45, I'm Nadia Baird.

Israeli President Binyamin Netanyahu is meeting with American President Obama in Washington today. They aim to discuss US criticism of 1,600 Jewish housing developments in occupied East Jerusalem.

Natanyahu is defiant on East Jerusalem settler homes, declaring "Jerusalem is not a settlement," and arguing that ‘building them in no way precludes the possibility of the two-state solution."
Fears from the American Government were spoken by Secretary of State Hilary Clinton:

Britain is to expel an Israeli diplomat following the allegations that Israeli agents were behind the killing of a Hamas military leader. Six members of the Israeli’s secret service are allegedly to blame for cloning British passports.

Foreign secretary David Miliband will be making a statement on the issue in the Parliament later today. He is demanding that Israel co-operates fully with the investigation of the murder and describes the cloning of British passport as an ‘outrage’.

    ---

Gordon Brown is insisting that the country is not facing a gas supply crisis, despite a warning from the National Grid for suppliers to use less gas.

Some power suppliers can stop using gas by switching their generators to coal. The grid also receives extra gas from other terminals, which can ease off the pressure. National Grid bosses are meeting again later today to further discuss the issue.

    ---

VT Group PLC has today accepted a 1.3 billion pound offer from London-based Babcock International after almost a month of bidding.

The merger of the two technical engineering companies will save 50 million in annual costs and generate 3 billion pounds of revenue.

Shareholders are also set to benefit from this morning with the share price rising 5.2 percent for VT and 8.4 percent for Babcock.

Coventry roads are set to feature on BBC's The One Show tomorrow, highlighting it as one of the UK worst cities affected by potholes.

Appearing will be local resident Paul Gregory, who started a Facebook group titled: I’m Sick of Coventry Potholes.

The show will tour roads in Foleshill and Radford with the help of Gregory, who hopes the added media attention will bring focus to a cause that has prompted thousands of complaints from residents since January.

    ---

The city council is hoping to turn Far Gosford Street into our own Brick Lane. The council-led project is aiming to save historic buildings in the area, starting with a community clean up to restore local pride.

Shopkeepers and business organisations are taking part in the thirty million pounds makeover to one of the oldest streets in town.

    Clip:
In words: "I think it's an excellent idea..."
Out words: "...wonderful keeping it alive".
    Duration: 0'21''

That's the latest. I'm Antoniya Petkova.
