Despite having already met the following people, they became an essential part of this professional experience and proved more valuable that I had suspected they ever would.
Spencer Murphy, founder of East Asian Film Society, who we had been discussing future newsletter developments with. Consequently, I pitched him an idea for the new society publication, while he already had plans for the online version to be implemented this year. Spencer established the original recruitment process and communicated with the possible team of writers. He is an invaluable resource to have, mainly as a person to evaluate possible projects, as he is able to keep a clear unaffected by emotions opinion. Spencer's efforts led to the establishment of the society's partnership with Cine-Vue, which is an important step in our society towards professional realisation.
Daniel Green, editor of the Cine-Vue website. Despite never having communicated directly with Mr. Green, he is certainly a useful contact and the partnership between our society and his website is a promise for something bigger in the future. Daniel could essentially provide first-hand experience of working in an online environment with a chain of writers, both commissioned and freelance, sub-editors, journalists, photographers, etc. Under his indirect guidance, through the editing of my submissions, I am confident my writing skills have improved tremendously, as my expressions have become more sophisticated - an obstacle, unaided by the fact that I am not a native English speaker, ultimately surmountable through experience and outside evaluation.
Shelly Stevenson, lecturer in Coventry University, who came up with the idea of a partnership between the society and iCov. Shelly's enthusiasm towards the work that the society had done over the last year was a great source of motivation and inspiration, that ultimately led to more professional and dedicated behaviour on my part. Through my studies, Shelly had proven an objective, yet warm personal tutor, who was always available to give assistance and answer even the most ridiculous questions. She is a person who I would consider invaluable in my professional experience, through the increasing work between our society and her website, but more importantly as a source of positive energy through objective evaluation of any work produced.
Sabina Pasaniuc, member of CUEAFS. Befohand, Sabina and I had not interacted much, though she proved an invaluable writing resource for this professional experience. Part of the original intended writers team, I had been impressed with Sabina's work during the last year, although I had rarely seen much produced by her due to her many obligations and activities. I was pleased to continue receiving work from Sabina, despite her lack of time, as her writing is up to a very good standard and I have considered her useful not only as a resource, but also as a personal example as to good, expressive and serious film writing. Sabina is a developed writer who will always be of use not only as a writer to rely on/work with/employ, but also as a standing check of the quality of my own writing and developing skills as a film journalist.Labels: contact book |
